Constantly, I ask myself: What am I doing online?
I'm not making new friends and contacts.
Any useful information is supplanted by marketers and scams and the dead internet.
I deleted Facebook and Twitter years ago, no problem. Today I deleted Discord—next month they'll make age verification mandatory, though last year hackers stole personal data for 70K users. Deleted my art on Pixiv and DeviantArt because I got nothing back from sharing it, just a bunch of faceless consumers.
Social media is antisocial. Rather than feeling connected, I come away hating myself and the world. I go for more walks now, an act of desperation rather than pleasure, like I'm fleeing something ugly.
Next I'll deactivate Bluesky. No connections there, no conversations, nothing to look forward to.
And then, unless something miraculous happens, maybe I'll shut this place down. There'll be no one to like or repost my activity; none of my actions or creations will be recorded.
Imagine that. You'll have to, because there'll be no evidence.
What will replace it, though? What will fill the newly emptied hours? What will be my reason to get up each day? What will there be to look forward to?
